About Kerbside

Available on-street parking and how busy the streets are around you in Melbourne's CBD, straight from the City of Melbourne's open-data sensors.

Where the data comes from

Parking bays
~6,300 in-ground bay sensors. Each reports when a car arrives or leaves; the app re-checks every minute. Bays silent for 6+ hours are shown grey.
Time limits
Council sign-plate records for each parking zone, refreshed daily. A few zones aren't in the data, and gaps between restrictions can be clearways — always check the signs.
Meter rates
Council pay-and-stay rates, refreshed daily, matched to bays by street block. A rate is only shown where a metered sign is in force — Kerbside never says a bay is free of charge, so check the sign and meter.
Car parks
Public car parks and their capacity from the 2024 City of Melbourne land-use census. Live availability isn't published.
Foot traffic
~130 pedestrian counters counting people each minute. The app checks every 3 minutes, but the council's feed runs 15–40 minutes behind. "Usual" is the average for the same hour on the same weekday over the past six weeks.
Nearby
Public toilets, drinking fountains and taxi ranks (refreshed weekly) and surveyed footpath steepness (loaded for what's on screen).

Disclaimer

Kerbside is an independent app run by Kanso Labs. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by the City of Melbourne.

Kerbside only presents publicly available City of Melbourne open data, combined and reformatted for a phone. We don't create, check or correct that data and can't guarantee it is accurate, complete, current or available. Bay sensors can be faulty or delayed; restrictions, meter rates, clearways and closures change; and "usual" foot traffic is an average, not a forecast.

The information is provided "as is" for general guidance only. It isn't a substitute for the signs, meters, parking rules and directions on the street, which always take precedence — you are responsible for parking legally and safely. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Kanso Labs accepts no liability for any loss, fine, towing or other consequence arising from use of, or reliance on, this app. Nothing here excludes rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law that can't be excluded.

Please don't use Kerbside while driving — pull over or ask a passenger.

Privacy

Location: if you share it, your location is used only on your phone to work out distances. It is never sent to Kerbside or stored by us.

On your phone: saved places and settings are kept in this browser's local storage. Clearing your browser data removes them.

No accounts, cookies, analytics or advertising. We don't collect personal information.

Other services: to show the map and data, your browser talks directly to the City of Melbourne open-data portal, OpenFreeMap (map tiles) and Vercel (which hosts the app). Like any website, they receive standard request information such as your IP address and the map area being loaded, under their own privacy policies.
